【论文简介】

Despite growing prevalence of women in corporate leadership positions within the contemporary economic landscape, scholarly discourse persists regarding potential performance differentials between female and male executives. Family enterprises, representing substantial economic segments globally, frequently demonstrate heightened sensitivity toward board composition gender dynamics due to deeply ingrained male-dominated traditions. Concurrently, digital evolution driven by technological progress has emerged as a crucial determinant of organizational competitiveness. This transformation presents particular complexities for family-controlled entities, where distinctive governance frameworks may influence implementation efficacy. Consequently, this investigation quantitatively examines board chair gender effects on digital transformation utilizing data from Chinese familial corporations. Findings reveal that female leadership positively influences digital transformation through flexible managerial approaches that create a facilitating influence. Nevertheless, financial constraints arising from pronounced risk avoidance and lending market biases generate a counteracting constraining influence. Critically, the facilitating influence supersedes the constraining impact. Additionally, the analysis identifies stronger digital transformation advancement effects when female leaders are familial members, in indirectly established organizations, in entities with numerous controllers, and during formative and mature stages. This research establishes an analytical structure for understanding board diversity implications on technological modernization in family enterprises, offering actionable insights for promoting gender parity in corporate governance and leadership appointments.
